Launceston Town Band Win Trophies

On Saturday 19th June, Launceston Town Band and Launceston Junior Band entered the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival and a delighted band came home having won four trophies.

Launceston Town Band played the test piece, A Holiday Suite, conducted by Musical director Dave Dobson, and was awarded Second Prize in their section, winning The Ernest & Bernice Currow Memorial Trophy.

Launceston Junior Band, conducted by Musical Director Ann Brown, played a selection of pieces, including, A Festive Parade, Another Day, Brass Tango and Bandstand Blues, and won the First Prize in the Training Section, winning The Don Rosveare Trophy.  Launceston Junior Band players were also awarded trophies, Neil Mitchell won The Best Player Award, The Monty Pearce Memorial Trophy, in the Training Section, on euphonium, and Grace Denford was awarded The Peter Minear Memorial Trophy for Best Cornet Player.

The band will be playing in The Square on Saturday 3rd July at the Butter Market, when we will also be holding our Grand Draw at approximately 1 pm. To purchase Draw Tickets, please see any band member, visit the Band Room, (Bounsalls Lane, behind the Tax Office) on a Wednesday between 10 am and 3 pm when we serve lunches, or the band will be playing at The Victorian Market on Saturday 26th June and Draw Tickets can be purchased from our refreshment stall.
