Carols by Candlelight
Despite the cold, ice and slush, a large number of the community attended the Launceston Town Band ‘Carols by Candlelight’ event in the Town Square, on Thursday 23rd December. The event was led by Rev. Malcolm Jones and the Band was conducted by MD, Dave Dobson. The Band played a number of popular Carols, with everyone joining in the singing.
347 candles were lit and placed on the monument to celebrate the total number of lives lost by British troops during the war in Afghanistan.
Mince pies, mulled wine, tea, coffee and hot chocolate were served during the event by The Lions and Launceston Town Band supporters.
Launceston Town Band would like to thank, Tesco for donating mince pies, Martin’s Cash and Carry for the wine and The Lions for all their help with setting up, lighting candles, serving refreshments and (perhaps most importantly) clearing up afterwards.
Launceston Town Band Plays in the New Year
Members of Launceston Town Band and their supporters met in the Band room on New Year’s Eve to begin the celebrations to welcome in the New Year. After getting into a party mood, helped by a buffet and liquid refreshments, band members made their way to the Town Square at 11.45pm. On the stroke of midnight, they welcomed in 2011 by playing Old Lang Syne. The band was conducted by MD Dave Dobson. Revelers from the local bars came out into the Square to link hands and join in singing the world famous Robert Burns poem, Auld Lang Syne.
