Launceston Town Band Seeks New Players
Launceston Town Band, a community brass band is on the lookout for new players and are keen to hear from anyone who would like to join the band. The band’s repertoire is very varied; the music played covers most musical genres, ranging from classical to pop/rock and movie themes and caters for all tastes and levels of experience.
Dave Dobson, Musical Director, said: Launceston Town Band is always happy to welcome new players. If you play, or used to play, a brass instrument or percussion, Launceston Town Band would love to hear from you.
Players of all ages, from children to retired are welcome, at all levels of skills. Some members of the Youth Band are currently studying for graded exams with Trinity College of Music Associated board of Music London, with grades ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 7, they are tutored by Ann Brown ATCL, Junior and Youth Band Musical Director.
Launceston Youth Band are very keen to hear from any budding brass or percussion players, 19 and under, that are not registered in a contesting band and would like to take part in a forthcoming competition at Torquay in November. Playing as part of a team, is a great way to improve musical skills, and gain confidence and experience.
Launceston Town Band and Launceston Youth Band take part in various community events during the year, such as Civic Ceremonies, Carnival, Fetes etc., and playing in the Town Square at markets and at various venues at Christmas.
Both bands enter contests in the south west region and enjoy social events, the latest one was a cycle ride from Bodmin to Padstow and back to Bodmin, with lunch at Padstow.
The rehearsals for both bands are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, in the Bandroom, Bounsalls Lane Launceston.
