Launceston Junior Band Wins Gold Award:
Town Band Bag-
After consultations with, Shelly, Community Champion at Tesco, Launceston, members of Launceston Town Band and the Junior Band descended on Tesco Store on 6th February 2010, to spend the day packing bags for customers. Two young people or one adult with one of the younger members of the Junior Band were assigned to a checkout, where they asked customers if they would like their shopping packed for them. Most people took them up on their offer, and dropped their spare change in the bucket. Although some of the Band members worked in shifts, we did have a few enthusiastic members who worked from 9 am through to 5 pm.
The staff at Tesco were all very helpful and supportive, and were as thrilled as the Band when we told them that we had raised a total of £717.00
The money raised will help pay towards new Junior Band uniforms. More Photos

On Saturday 7th November 2010, twenty excited, but nervous Launceston Junior Band players boarded a coach to take them to their first contest, the Annual Championships of the South West Brass Band Association at Torquay. The young players were supported by The Mayor and Mayoress of Launceston, Paul and Rosemary O’Brien, family, friends and other Band members. The Junior Band played 4 pieces, Festive March, Hoe Down,
Crocodile Rock and Ice Cold Tango.. Grace Denford played a solo cornet part in Hoe Down. Amid cheers, whistles and shouts, Launceston Junior Band was awarded Gold and received The Plymouth Lord Mayor’s Cup. Grace Denford was awarded The Joe Armstrong Memorial Cup for Best Instrumentalist. Nine of the Junior Band are taking their graded exams this week, we wish them all well. Look for the Band during December, when we will be playing Christmas carols around town on Saturday mornings and outside Tesco.
